چکیده

We study how changes in sidebranching in electroluminescent polymers affect the performance of polyfluorene-based light-emitting diodes with and without additional hole transport materials. We observe that light emission and device efficiency are determined more by the position of the exciton recombination zone than by changes in the polymer morphology induced by sidebranching. Consequently, we find that sidebranching mainly controls the relative emission between vibrational energy levels and has a minimal effect on polymer charge transport properties. Light outputs of 10 000 cd/m and device efficiencies of 0.85 and 1.8 cd/A are obtained for singleand double-layer devices, respectively. © 2002 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1473692#

Thin-film Encapsulation of Organic Light-Emitting Diodes Using Single and Multilayer Structures of MgF2, YF3 and ZnS

In this research, the lifetime of green organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) is studied using four passivation layers. To encapsulate the OLEDs, MgF2, YF3, composed of alternating MgF2/ZnS and YF3/ZnS layers were grown by thermal vacuum deposition. Measurements show that the device lifetime is significantly improved by using YF3 and ZnS as passivation layers. However, diodes encapsulated by Mg...

High-efficiency polymer light-emitting diodes using neutral surfactant modified aluminum cathode.

High-efficiency polymer light-emitting diodes were fabricated by inserting a layer of nonionic neutral surfactant between the electroluminescent (EL) layer and the high-work-function aluminum cathode via spin coating. It was found that both the poly(ethylene glycol)- and poly(propylene glycol)-based surfactants as well as their copolymers can all demonstrate similar performance enhancement. Dev...

Electroluminescence of Conjugated Aromatic Polymers in Organic Light Emitting Diodes

Organic electroluminescent materials have been the subject of intense research for use in light emitting diodes (LEDs). When compared with liquid crystal displays (LCDs), organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) require lower energy input, have a wider viewing angle with improved color contrast, and can be made much thinner. The electroluminescence (EL) of organic compounds was first demonstrated ...

Energy and charge transfer in blends of dendronized perylenes with polyfluorene.

Two generations of polyphenylene dendrimers with a perylene diimide core are compared with a nondendronized tetraphenoxyperylene diimide model compound regarding their application in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Single layer devices with blends of the first and second generation dendrimers in polyfluorene are investigated as active layers in OLEDs, and the effect of dendronization on ...
